Application of Mechanical Seals

Mechanical seal is an important part of modern industry. The function of mechanical seal is  often to contain fluid or gas in a pump, compressor, or container. The shaft seal is used for the pump, mixer or any object where the rotating shaft passes through the fixed housing. The mechanical face seal is a special type of seal used in situations where leakage must be reduced to steam.

Seals have a wide range of applications; therefore, their use is not limited to one device. These applications include automobiles, ships, rockets and industrial pumps, compressors, residential swimming pools and dishwashers. Seals come in many forms, including single cartridge mechanical seal, compressor seals, multi spring seal designs, metal bellows seals, mixer and agitator seals, single and double cylinder seals. There are more than one type of seal, so the most important thing is to be able to determine the temperature range, application and environment that different seals can withstand, so as to choose the right seal for your application. By improving the operation efficiency, longer service life and safety of the machine, correct seals can prevent environmental pollution and save costs.

Technical essentials for installation and use of mechanical seal:

1) The mechanical seal stationary parts should be kept clean during installation, the sealing parts should be cleaned, the sealing end face should be intact to prevent impurities and dust from entering into the sealing part;

2) It is strictly prohibited to hit or knock during installation to prevent the mechanical seal friction pair from damaging and sealing failure

3) During installation, a layer of clean mechanical oil should be coated on the surface contacting with the seal to ensure smooth installation;

4) When installing the static ring gland, the screws should be tightened evenly to ensure the vertical requirements between the end face of the static ring and the axis line;

5) After installation, the dynamic ring should be pushed by hand to make it move flexibly on the shaft and have certain elasticity

6) After installation, the rotating shaft shall be rotated by hand, which shall be of no importance;

7) The equipment must be filled with medium before operation, so as to prevent seal failure due to dry friction.
